The Swedish Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights

The Swedish Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights is a non - governmental organisation based in Sweden. The organisation has no affiliations neither with a political party nor any religious entity.

Our vision is that everyone living in Eastern Europe and Central Asia shall live in peace and in a societal climate where their human rights are respected. They should have the possibility to, in a democratic order, influence their situation and the development in their countries.

Our goal is to promote durable peace, democratic development and respect for human rights in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The Swedish Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights therefore supports processes which aim at democracy and human rights as well as people working in that direction. The aim is also to spread knowledge and build opinion in Sweden concerning these issues.

Kampanj 193:
Föreningsfrihet
i Vitryssland

År 2006 antogs en ny lag, § 193 i Vitrysslands brottsbalk, som kriminaliserar all verksamhet i en icke-registrerad organisation. Brottet är belagt med upp till två års fängelse. Tusentals vitryssar fortsätter idag att arbeta i icke-registrerade organisationer trots hot om fängelse eller böter, men många har också valt att sluta av rädsla för konsekvenserna. Hittills har 14 personer dömts enligt § 193.

Därför driver Östgruppen för demokrati och mänskliga rättigheter «Kampanj 193», till stöd för föreningsfriheten i Vitryssland. Läs mer om Kampanj 193 »


Lyssna på vitrysk musik
- stöd Kampanj 193!

Under våren lanserar Östgruppen en skiva med vitrysk musik till stöd för demokratiarbetet i Vitryssland. Vitryska musiker som stödjer kampanjens syfte har bidragit med sina låtar, dels för att samla in medel till demokratiarbetet i Vitryssland, dels sprida vitrysk kultur i Sverige. »
